In The Car Podcast Episode 4 – Home Impeachment Edition
In this episode of the In The Car Podcast, I sing a song about the impeachment of Donald Trump. The episode was recorded on December 19th, but I had to do a little editing and was not able to complete that until today.
The tune is “The Christmas Song” by Robert Wells and Mel Torme, new lyrics are as shown below:
The Impeachment Song
Donald Trump wanted to inflict some pain
On Joe Biden, yes, his biggest foe
A perfect phone call with the head of Ukraine
And a chance to make a quid pro quo
Everybody knew they had to start the coverup
Hide the transcript as quickly as they could
But then a whistleblower stood and spoke up
That Trump did not act like he should
The House began to join the fray
By calling witnesses who had a lot to say
And after several weeks, they found the truth
That everyone was in the loop
And so our country had a choice to make
To figure out what we had to do
For Donald Trump, after solemn debate
It’s impeachment for you
Read: Jimmy Carter Lives Modestly
I have always had the impression that Jimmy Carter has led a quiet life after his presidency, but he is really quiet!
In this recent article by Ken Smith, he makes an effective argument that all of us will soon need to be more involved in our democracy….
We need to use more potent words than words like do something. We need some particular ideas, some actual knowledge, not just ideas about climate change but, with the same urgency, ideas about activism. How it really works.
Finally – the Donald Trump cave-in has happened!
From CNN: Donald Trump has caved. And now the government is going to re-open.
The actual bill the Senate and House are approving: House Joint Resolution 28: Further Additional Continuing Appropriations Act, 2019. I could not find a link to the Senate version of the bill, will add that when it is available.
The two Senate amendments from January 24th:
- H.R. 268 – Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2019 (the House bill the Senate was considering)
- Senate Amendment 5 to H.R. 268 – Republican Amendment
- Senate Amendment 6 to H.R. 268 – Democratic Amendment
