On July 20, 1969, the Apollo 11 Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) landed on the surface of the Moon, and Neil Armstrong was the first man to step onto the Moon’s surface. Wikipedia has an excellent account of the mission. I have also posted about the 25th anniversary, where I saw the three Apollo 11 astronauts in person.
